The LANAP® Procedure in Burnaby, BC
LANAP®
(Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure)
Basic Steps of the LANAP® Protocol
Laser gum surgery begins with a measurement of your gum pockets. Dr. Benny Yee will use a probe to check the depth of your pockets and assess any loss of attachment that has been experienced as a result of periodontal disease.
In the next step of the Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure (LANAP®) or laser gum surgery, Dr. Yee will slip the laser into the pockets of your gums. Due to the wavelength at which the laser operates, it is able to selectively eliminate bacteria and remove diseased tissue while leaving healthy gum tissue intact. Dr. Yee then removes calculus deposits from the roots of your teeth using ultrasonic scalers, underneath your gum line.
The laser is then utilized to incite the bone, tooth root, and soft tissue, which results in a change in the consistency of the blood. This in turn, causes the blood to seal off the area around the tooth, creating an improved environment for healing. In laser gum surgery, Dr. Yee has the ability to control bleeding using the PerioLase® MVP-7™, which effectively minimizes bleeding for patients undergoing this gum disease treatment in Burnaby.
In the final steps of laser gum surgery, Dr. Yee will compress the gum tissue against your tooth surfaces and adjust your bite, if necessary. He will also evaluate your mouth to assess any impact the laser gum surgery may have had to your surrounding teeth.
Our office offers LANAP® laser gum surgery in two convenient sessions of two hours each.
