Dental Implants 101 in Burnaby, BC
Basics of a Dental Implant
When having a dental implant procedure to replace your missing teeth, Dr. Yee will place a titanium implant into your jaw bone. The post of the dental implant is made of biocompatible titanium, a substance successfully used for implants throughout the body. Over the course of several months, the titanium post will integrate with your jaw bone in a process called osseointegration. This process creates a bond for your dental implant similar in function and strength to the relationship between your natural tooth roots and jaw bone.
In the next phase of the dental implant procedure, an abutment is attached to the titanium post to serve as a connector between the post and a dental crown. Dental crowns are shaded and shaped to replicate your missing teeth. As part of the dental implant procedure, a crown will be secured to the abutment, giving the illusion of a tooth growing out of the gum line.
Why Replace Missing Teeth with a Dental Implant Procedure in Burnaby, British Columbia?
Dental implants are an excellent solution for the restoration of missing teeth, as they require no additional maintenance or special care other than the proper brushing, flossing, and regular dental visits recommended for your natural teeth. Dental implants also offer another inherent advantage in the way of bone preservation. When you have missing teeth, bone loss begins to occur at the site of your lost teeth. Undergoing a dental implant procedure will stop the process of bone deterioration as the post placed during the dental implant procedure mimics the relationship between the bone and tooth root.
Dental implant procedures are a safe way to replace your missing teeth. Dental implants offer long-term benefits that dentures cannot. For more information about the advantages of replacing missing teeth with dental implant procedures as compared with dentures, contact the dental office of Dr. Yee.
